Unforgettable Trekking Adventure in the Atlas Mountains

Discover the awe-inspiring beauty of the High Atlas Mountains near Marrakech on this captivating seven-day trek. Traverse a variety of landscapes, from lush valleys to rugged rocky terrain, and relish every moment of this extraordinary journey.

Your route will lead you through vibrant Berber villages, over panoramic mountain passes, and culminate at the highest point, Mount Toubkal’s summit, towering at 4,167 meters – the pinnacle of North Africa.

Your Berber crew, including a seasoned mountain guide, skilled cook, dedicated muleteers, and reliable mules, will ensure your journey is comfortable and enjoyable.

Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil (1700m) – Tachedirt Commence your adventure by departing from Marrakech after breakfast. Your drive will take you to the Imlil valley via Asni, a vibrant market town and the primary trailhead for hikers. Meet your dedicated team, and once your equipment is loaded, embark on a trek along the valley toward Tacheddirt, approximately 8 kilometers from Imlil. The trail gradually ascends to Tizi N’Tamatert (2279m) before descending to the picturesque village of Ouaneskra. Continue for another half-hour to reach Tacheddirt (3000m), where you’ll typically camp by the river.

Day 2: Tachedirt – Azib Likemt Cross the valley, and embark on a long, gradual ascent to Tizi Likemt (3555m). The path may be challenging due to debris on the ground. At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with your first view of Mount Toubkal before descending to the village of Azib Likemt, where you’ll camp for the night.

Day 3: Azib Likemt – Tizi N’Ououraine – Amsouzart This long yet relatively straightforward day leads you through a variety of contrasting landscapes. Upon reaching Tizi Ououraine (3120m), you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Mount Toubkal, Ifni’s summit, and the Dome (3876m). The trail guides you to Amsouzert, one of the region’s most striking villages, where you’ll spend the night in dormitories at a simple village cottage.

Day 4: Amsouzart – Lac Ifni West of Amsouzert, explore several small villages as you make your way to Lake Ifni, a unique mountain lake. Nestled amidst rocky mountains and massive boulders, this unusually deep lake is a sight to behold. Expect to arrive by noon, spending the afternoon relaxing by the lake. You’ll camp in this area for the night.

Day 5: Lac Ifni – Tizi N’Ouanoums – Refuge Toubkal (3207m) By this point, you should be in excellent shape, prepared to tackle the trek’s most challenging day. Navigate a steep path through what seems like endless scree slopes. Your journey takes you to Tizi n’Ouanoums (3664m), a narrow rocky ridge nestled between two summits. Following the ascent, you’ll make a zigzag descent to Nelter Hut, a mountain shelter where you’ll spend the night.

Day 6: Refuge Toubkal (3207m) – Toubkal Summit (4167m) – Imlil (1700m) Set off before dawn, following a well-established route to the summit. With favorable conditions, it shouldn’t take more than 2-3 hours to reach the summit, providing a clear view of the entire range and the Marrakech plain in the Atlas Mountains. Descending to the base, you’ll pass through Sidi Chamharouch and Aremd villages before following the river on a well-wooded path to the Imlil trailhead.

Day 7: Imlil (1700m) – Aremd Village – Marrakech Start your day with a journey south to the Berber village of Aroumd (Aremd). As you trek through the dramatic slopes, the towering peaks of the Toubkal Massif, including Mount Aguelzim (3,547m), Mount Aksouâl (3,847m), and the Adrar Adj (3,122m), will stand before you. Enjoy a leisurely lunch amidst nature before returning to the lodge for a refreshing shower and transfer to Marrakech.
